The Art of Life: Enjoying the Morning Birdsong with Gökotta

As long as I live, I’ll hear waterfalls and birds and winds sing.

– John Muir

Since my childhood, I have been very privileged to live in the cities where I had ample opportunities to hear the bird songs. The city where I was born and brought up is famous for its greenery all over. Just like a patch of green amidst the urban grey, my city looks very beautiful when it dawns.

But there is something else that makes dawn this special for me. The city where I currently live has fewer trees than my previous city, yet, my house is surrounded by many big trees.

I wake up every morning by listening to the sweet chirping of the birds who visit these trees in the early hours of the morning, sometimes even before the dawn comes.

This way, before I leave my bed and prepare for the day, I start my day while listening to their sweet songs.

Every night, we go to bed with the wish that our stress may be lessened the next day and we may live with a blissful mind.

But when your day will start with this sweet chirping of birds and calmness everywhere around, your heart will be filled with a serene bliss.

And this is what we can learn from the art of life called Gökotta.

Enjoying the Morning Birdsong with Gökotta

Gökotta is a Swedish word that means rising in the early morning hour with the purpose to listen to the bird song.

How blissful this sounds! Even watching the folk of birds sing their sweet songs in the early hours of dawn, when the Sun is rising and the first sun rays are touching you, how wonderful this sight seems.

In some regions of Sweden, there is a beautiful tradition where the people go out into the woods on Ascension Day that comes 40 days after Easter.

They do this because they want to listen to the birds in the woods. Especially, they wish to hear the cuckoo sing for the first time in Spring.

When you will incorporate Gökotta into your daily life, it will help to calm down your morning anxiety.

Along with this, your morning will start with a blissful note that helps to keep your mind away from all the worries and anxious thoughts.

It is known that if we start the morning with a positive mood and lots of good vibes that help us to have a peaceful day ahead. Additionally, the person will have a more productive day too.

When you will get into the habit of Gökotta, your morning will start with more peace and more calm. After practising this beautiful art of life, you will see that your mornings have become more purposeful.

After all, morning shows the day, and with the beautiful art of life Gökotta, your mornings will sing you the purpose of life!

  1. It is such a beautiful moment to hear the birds awakening at dawn and hear their songs. One of my most cherished memory is of a bulbul singing at 5:30 in the morning as I saw the sky turning gold. Thank you for this Swarnali

  2. This is a lovely, soothing post Swarnali. I’ve been in Delhi now for three years and I really miss life in smaller towns where nature is in bounty. From bird song to fresh air and blue skies. What a lovely way to begin your day, all year through.

  3. I think the birds live in present and that’s why they have ample reasons to chirp when the day breaks. I suppose the very idea of listening to the birds is to know this eternal truth.
With spring in the air, we are blessed with a lot of chirping sounds, enough to push away that gloom of cold winter!
