Sisterhood, a beautiful bond of love, faith, and togetherness. Be it sharing the toys in childhood or sharing the last byte of chocolate after the quarrels, sisters are always together in every phase of life. Sometimes, a sister is a friend with whom we can share our heart’s deepest emotions, also, sometimes, a sister is a guide who makes us learn to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong. But for us, we are more like soul companions bonded with the same string of stardust. Today I am going to share our journey of sisterhood with you all.
I want to say a big thank you to my angel. Life has thrown all kinds of colours to our canvas, that’s why we learned to smile together and we learned to cry together, too. We learned together, how to fight a storm with utmost courage and build resilience to overcome the situation.
When it comes to support a woman for her growth: emotional, personal, and professional, we are always the biggest support to each other.
I am the elder sister. Since childhood, I have experienced the feeling of motherhood in the form of a sister many times in life. I have always treated my baby sister as my child. But recently, I saw my little sister growing up too soon and becoming my second mother. I saw her becoming the lady of the house, relentlessly giving utmost care and courage to all of us and trying to keep the house safe and sane.
The year of 2020 came with all its own:
In this year when the world was fighting against the pandemic, we were busy fighting with the odds life had thrown to us. Our family was going through a lot. Mom was completely fine till we returned home from Kolkata. We reached home on 8th February and she fell sick from 9th, gradually revealing to us that she had been suffering from Anxiety Disorders. She was severely sick for several months. That phase of our life was nothing less than a nightmare, maybe, it was something more than that.
Watching my mom having seizures was the most terrible thing I have ever seen in life.
We two sisters became stronger within a moment. We started nursing, feeding and taking care of mom. My sister and I took the responsibility of the whole household alone and we did it alternatively. One day I did it all and she studied, the next day she did it all and I came back to my work. At a point, due to the delayed diagnosis of the disease and wrong dosage of the medicines, mom’s health became worse. Dad went out of mind completely, standing helpless and continuously finding a way out. That phase was the worst one of all. It was between the month of May 2020 to July 2020. Those three months, mom was almost like a new born baby who only knows to respond to a few of emotions. She was having frequent emotional outburst, only to be pacified by her daughters. She spent sleepless days and nights at a stretch for several months. In one word, things became the worst at that time. And we were helpless.
But, I am the lucky one who has the amazing sister by her side, always. That time, my sister was always there with me and she did all the daily chores everyday. She did the cooking, feeding and nursing to mom, and then studied late at night. I went to help her for an hour or two, but she did all the things single handed. She gave me time to work on my writing projects.
Before that, I had lost many things in life, so my sister didn’t want me to give up my first ebook due to these circumstances. In the month of May 2020, when my mom was very sick, I fell on tears, hiding it from all and shedding tears in a lonely corner of the house. I cried, I broke, I felt helpless, but still I worked on my first ebook, because it was again my sister who was constantly beside me to motivate me to work more. That’s why, today I proudly call the book is not only mine, it’s ours. The journey doesn’t belong to only me, rather, it belongs to us.
Here I want to quote few lines from a letter I have written to my sister:
This phase of our lives bonded us together like the guitar that was waiting for long in the attic of the house. As if, it was eagerly waiting for strumming the most beautiful note of sisterhood and when this happened, I realized an amazing kind of bond between us. That we hear each other’s unsaid words. That we feel each other’s unspoken emotions. That we read each other’s unfinished sentences.
When it comes to personal development, we are there together, again. I have realized that if we wish to develop a strong connection and beautiful bonding with our siblings or the ones we love most, we need three pillars of life: love, faith, and the power of togetherness to build resilience.
Now I want to share with you how we learn life’s important lessons together. We learn together, we grow together.
Embracing gratitude for peace of mind:
Gratitude has a power within. The power that can do miracle. When things go wrong in every way, just hold on and be grateful for the things that are still good in your life. They have the positive vibes within and this act of being grateful will work as a mirror. Showing gratitude helps to calm the mind and eventually, you will begin to accept things as they are. It helps to embrace the peace of mind.
Love, a pure source of strength and courage:
Love can do wonders. Love teaches you the beautiful facts of life, more beautifully. Love is a pure feeling and it can heal your soul. Love has a healing power and I have realized, love has a great power to protect your peace. The purity of love and prayer protect you from all negativities around.
Faithfulness, a great source of building resilience:
Have faith in yourself and in your soul sister. When we are together on a journey, we always respect each other. We have faith in our bonding and thus, we stick through the storm together. It helps us to build resilience. Trust each other to the core. Whatever be the situation, always keep faith in your bonding. With this faith, you can swim the ocean, too.
Finding happiness in the form of togetherness:
Mom calls us twins. Although we share a five years gap between us, yet we are more like twin sisters. We stay together always. Anything we do, we do it together. Togetherness defines us. Since childhood, we share a strong bonding of love, faith, and togetherness between us. We stay happy this way, always.
Praising the marvels around us and learning from them:
When you have a few things in life and a very few people around you, the only way to cherish life’s brighter side is collecting the little beauties from the walk of life and treasure them to receive life’s blessings. Whatever you have right now, just hold them tight. Appreciate all the little things you have in your arms, don’t let them go. Live life to the fullest.
Constantly working for our personal development:
We work on our personal development. We meditate daily, practice mindfulness, read spiritual books and learn from everything. Whenever we learn something new, we share that learnings between us. Thus we gather knowledge together.
Trusting the process:
Last but not the least, I want to say that the best way to lead a peaceful life is trusting the process. Have a little hope in your heart that one day, everything will be fine. Things have fallen apart, it was your destiny. But have faith in your ability, trust the universe. God is always there with you. Things will fall into place certainly.
You just need to hold on a little longer.
Hold on a little longer,
Things will be fine,
One day, definitely.
The sun will rise again,
We will have the rainbow after the rain,
Storms will pass, have faith on us,
We will have the sunshine in our corridor.
Look, we still have the tiny ray there.
We still have the blossoms of hope in our hearts,
We still have the faith on us.
The storm will pass.
Stick through the thunder, it will end soon.
And there will be a brighter tomorrow, once again.
We will fight the storm together,
We will defy the destiny, together.
We will rise and shine, together.
Together we will bring hope and peace to our home,
The rooms will be dancing with smiles and laughter,
Things will be fine, one day, definitely.
You just need to hold on a little longer.
